Meet our newest resident

Noelle Ford!

Two thumbs up for adaptive golf!

Two thumbs up for adaptive golf days!

It’s been an eventful summer at Champions Place as we welcomed our newest resident – Noelle Ford! Noe and her parents, Nancy and Marshall have been part of the Titans community since 2015. Noe always brings a smile, humor and joy to our community. And we can’t forget her fabulous siblings, Anna, Harrison and Sydney who regularly volunteer at our Titans scrimmages.

We gave her a little time to settle in and then we asked Noe and her family about life at Champions so far.

Headed out for shopping and lunch with the roomies.

What has been the best part of being at Champions Place so far?

Noe: The best part about living at Champions Place is my Google device because I can use it to turn on and off lights; open and close my blinds and even play Spotify so I can listen to music hands free. My Google device is very helpful to me because it makes my daily life easier by making things a lot faster.

Nancy and Marshall, what changes have you seen in Noelle since she moved in?

Nancy: Noelle is enjoying living in a community surrounded by peers and growing in her independent living skills. We don’t get as many calls from her asking for our help to figure things out.  She is really enjoying Kat’s amazing cooking.  We receive frequent updates on the planned menu for the week!

Noe, you said you were surprised by the food situation when you moved in?

Noe: It was a surprise! Before I moved in, I didn’t know what the food would be like. In addition, I didn’t know that I would have a chef from the Ritz cook for us. Kat’s cooking is amazing because it’s always fresh and delicious. My favorite meal so far was her Seafood pasta because it was light and creamy. If I could, I would have that meal for the rest of my life because it was that good.

Let’s go bowling with the Titans!

“Something that folks should know about life at Champions Place is that we have a lot of fun and do a lot of social activities each week. In addition, Champions Place is all about being as independent as possible.”

Champions Place Newest Resident

Big life changes like this sometimes come with challenges. What’s something you have learned about yourself or a challenge you have faced since moving in?

Nancy: Working with Noelle to ensure that she gets enough daily exercise since we are not there with her to make sure it happens.  Several programs are being researched to help with this and to keep Noelle motivated.  Participating in adaptive golf has been a highlight for Noelle and a great way for her to learn something new and to be outside getting fresh air and exercise.

But also some quiet card games at home in the quad.

Noe: One thing that I learned about myself since I have moved in is that I must know how to divide my time among myself and with my roommates since I have never had roommates before.

Share a few closing thoughts with us about life at Champions Place!

Noe: Something that folks should know about life at Champions Place is that we have a lot of fun and do a lot of social activities each week. In addition, Champions Place is all about being as independent as possible.

Nancy & Marshall: We love the community that Champions Place provides not only for the residents, but also for their families.  Other parents are always willing to provide suggestions, answer questions, problem solve and to help navigate the complicated maze of government programs and resources. We have more peace of mind knowing that Noelle is an excellent environment to help her mature and grow in her independence.  We appreciate the state-of-the-art technology, community support, volunteers and the beautiful, accessible facility. We also appreciate the dedication and commitment of all the staff, caregivers, OT students, volunteers and Board members at Champions Place.  We are very thankful for the parents, Mt. Pisgah, foundations and companies that helped make Champions Place a reality.

And we are thankful for the Ford family and the joy that they bring to Champions Place and the Titan Community.

Welcome home Noelle!
